Artie Lange said he'd do ANYTHING to get his job back on the Howard Stern Show -- but according to Howard, his former radio pal still hasn't taken one very important step ... actually ASK for it.

Howard briefly discussed Artie on the Stern show this morning -- claiming, "Artie had said he wishes he was back on the show ... [which] stirred up a whole bunch of conversation that I don't even know how to begin to address."

When Robin asked if Artie ever personally approached Howard to ask for his job back, Howard replied, "No, but I think he would if he could get a hold of me."

As for Artie's possible return to radio with a new show -- Howard said, "Of course I support it. I think it would be great. I'd like to listen to Artie."

Howard adds, "I'm glad to hear that he's feeling better ... I'm really pulling for him. I hope he does okay."

The most beloved star of the hit reality show "Swamp People" is in danger of missing Season 3 after a serious heart condition almost took his life earlier this year ... TMZ has learned.

It's not Troy ... or Trapper Joe ... or the badass Guist Brothers -- it's Bruce Mitchell's faithful sidekick Tyler ... the lovable gator hunting dog.

TMZ spoke to a rep for Bruce -- the guy who rocks the overalls and the American flag bandana -- who tells us Tyler was having "heart troubles" back in January ... and had to be rushed to the vet for emergency medical care.

We're told things got so bad "the dog almost died."  
 
Luckily for Tyler, doctors were able to treat the illness ... and he's been resting at home and taking heart meds ever since.  
 
The rep tells us Bruce is unsure if Tyler will be able to join him on the boat next season ... saying Bruce is "hopeful...but still not sure."

After co-writing and starring in the hit summer movie Bridesmaids, Kristen Wiig has received a lot of attention from the big wigs of Hollywood. The newfound star is using her performance in the sixth highest grossing romantic comedy, to get a new flick off the ground.

Variety reports, Kristen received a pickup for Imogene, an indie comedy she's advocated for a while. The film has been a passion project for Kristen for more than two years. Her brand new star power has pushed production to start August 8 in NYC.

"With Michelle Morgan's remarkable script, we were incredibly fortunate to attract Kristen, who gave such an extraordinary performance in Bridesmaids,? producers Alix Madigan and Steve Golin stated.

Kristen will lead as rather successful New York playwright who stages a fake suicide attempt to win back her ex-boyfriend, only to end up being forced into the custody of her gambling-addict mother.

Pro skater Chad Muska posted an extremely heartfelt apology video last night -- admitting he was "a complete drunk idiot" on the night he was arrested and he is "so, so sorry for offending anybody out there."

As TMZ first reported, Muska was popped this week for allegedly vandalizing two buildings in Hollywood -- and dropped the N-word several times while dealing with security. 

  Muska admitted "it's not right to use certain slang like that" and was deeply apologetic over the whole ordeal, saying, "From the bottom of my heart, I am completely sorry for my actions."

Casey Anthony may be in Columbus, OH this AM, and if she is ... she can get police protection, but it's going to cost her.

The Columbus PD tells TMZ ... they have a Special Duty program, which allows people in their fine city to hire off duty cops for protection, and that's what Casey would have to do if she wants someone to guard her from the angry mob.

We're told, however, if there is a specific, real threat ... the PD would treat her the way they would anyone else and provide appropriate protection, without cost.

It may well be that Casey did not get on the Ohio-bound jet this AM (an airport official says the plane was carrying golfers) but the drill will be the same pretty much anywhere she goes -- if there's a real threat, cops will provide protection ... whether they think she killed her child or not.

A production car from the Canadian version of the game show "Cash Cab" was involved in an accident in Vancouver early this morning that left a pedestrian dead ... TMZ has learned.

Filming had finished for the night when the car -- a production vehicle being driven by a producer for the show -- struck a 61-year-old man. A police spokeswoman told the Vancouver Sun the man was taken to a nearby hospital, but died a short time later.

Andrew Burnstein -- President of Castlewood Productions, which produces the show -- tells TMZ, "Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and his friends and his family. My heart also goes out to the driver of the vehicle, a member of our technical staff, who is shaken and devastated by this tragic accident, as is our entire team."

Burnstein says the driver and the rest of the production team are cooperating with Vancouver Police. So far, no charges have been filed.

Canz is a Long Island-based sports bar establishment -- but at this joint the bar fare is served by girls in tight black tank tops instead of orange (like that other place).

We're told the show will feature a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to be a Canz girl (we'll give you two guesses). 

It figures to be the breast show ever.
